VGS vs. Garrett

The Lakewood Park Christian Panther girls soccer team tied Garrett in a home match on August 31st, with a final score of 1-1.  Lakewood was in control for most of the game, with more possession of the ball and many more shots on goal (9 vs 3).  A breakthrough came in the 28th minute when sophomore Grace Gardner played a perfectly weighted pass into senior Jael Winterholter who fired a shot at the Garrett goalkeeper.  The shot was mishandled by the keeper and Jael jumped on the rebound to place it in the back of the net.  Lakewood went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.  Garrett struck back early in the second half, when an errant Lakewood clearance allowed them to tie up the game with a shot from point blank range in the 43rd minute.  The remainder of the game was goal-less, but the Panthers generated most of the scoring opportunities.  Junior Annalisa Haraguchi put in a dominant performance in the stopper position for Lakewood, winning every ball that came within her vicinity.  Senior Julia Vergon reminded everyone why she was selected last year’s team MVP with a brilliant performance in her center back position.  Julia’s effort, along with her center back partner sophomore Mica Allen, kept the Garrett offense at bay for most of the game.  The Lady Panthers are back in action on Tuesday, September 5th at 5:00pm in a home match against Lakeland.
