Middle School Lady Panthers best St. Michael

The Lakewood Park Panther Middle School girls soccer team defeated Emmanuel St. Michael Lutheran in a home match on May 14th, with a final score of 2-1.  This game was evenly matched with offensive chances being created at either end of the field.  Both teams had very good goalkeepers which kept this a low scoring contest.  The Lakewood Park keeper, Jade Carnahan, had multiple impressive stops to support the victory.  The opening goal of the match came midway through the first half when Lakewood’s Maddie Beck had a moment of brilliance dribbling by multiple Emmanuel defenders to place a shot past the keeper.  Kaiya Bontrager provided the assist to Maddie’s goal.  As the half came to a close, Sam Hartz converted a chance that was not allowed because time expired just before the ball crossed the goal line.  The second half saw more of the same from each team with Emmanuel able to equalize on a shot that barely escaped Jade’s outstretched hands.  With less than 10 minutes to go in the half, Haley ‘coming-in-clutch’ Brooks got past the Emmanuel defense to score the game winner for the Panthers.  Adrian Bontrager did an awesome job holding Emmanuel’s best offensive player in check playing in her left fullback position.  Lakewood Middle School ended their regular season with a 3-1-1 record for a historic first ever winning season!
