Volleyball Wins First Sectional Title

The Lakewood Park Volleyball Team made history this weekend as they won their first ever Sectional Championship in Lakewood history. It all started earlier in the week on Thursday where the Panthers played the Hamilton Marines and swept them in 3 games (25-18, 25-12, 25-9). This match gave the Panthers momentum going into their 11am game Saturday against Lakewood rival Elkhart Christian Academy.

The Panthers faced a test as the ECA Eagles would not give up or throw in the towel easily. The first set was easily won by the Panthers 25-18, but the Eagles responded with a victory in the second set 25-19. The competition rose as the 3rd and 4th set were both back and forth games. LPC won the 3rd 25-20 and ECA won the 4th, 25-21. It was all tied up 2 games a piece going into the 5th set as Lakewood beat the Eagles 15-6.

Lakewood faced the Fremont Eagles in the Sectional Championship where clearly Lakewood wanted that win. The Panthers won the first 2 sets easily (25-9, 25-14). The second set was almost done. Lakewood was leading 24-9. The Eagles served it at Lakewood, Alli Knox passed it to Heidi Johnson, and Heidi gave Lilly an amazing set where Lilly killed it, ending the game in victory. The 2017 Lakewood Volleyball team won the Sectional Title. Lakewood will look to keep pushing forward in Regionals, Saturday, October 21st.

Senior Lilly Kruse led team in kills with 55. Lilly Kruse led the team in aces with 16. Heidi Johnson led the team in assists with 30.
