VGS vs. Southside

The Lakewood Park Christian Panthers varsity girls soccer team was defeated by South Side in an away match on September 28th with a final score of 1-0.  Lakewood had more possession and more chances on goal in this game, but were unlucky on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field.  The Panthers best opportunity to score in the first half came on a fast break by senior Jael Winterholter that was setup by perfectly weighted through ball from junior Annalisa Haraguchi.  As Jael approached the goal to get a shot, she was run off the ball by a speedy South Side defender.  In the second half, Lakewood was poised to score when the freshmen connection of Sabra Harms and Hannah Sibery hooked up in front of the South Side goal.  Sabra made an unselfish pass to Hannah who hit a shot that was going in except the opposing goalie leaped in the air to push the ball over the crossbar.  With 10 minutes left in the game, South Side was able to score on a shot that was deflected by a Lakewood defender into their goal.  It was another close, tough defeat for Lakewood in their last regular season match of the year.  Lakewood Park will play their first sectional game on Tuesday October 3rd at 7:00PM against Lakeland Christian Academy at Bethany high school.
