JV Baseball Outlasts Garrett 13-9 in High-Scoring Affair

Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Tuesday as the Lakewood Park Christian Panthers JV outscored Garrett 13-9 in six innings. The teams combined for 15 hits, including three extra base hits. The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to four lead changes in the game.

Our boys took the lead in the fourth inning and held on for the victory. A wild pitch scored Isaac Schlotterback to give the Lakewood Park Christian Panthers JV the lead for good. Schlotterback led all hitters, going 2-3 with a single, a double, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs scored.

Drew Lyons recorded the win for the Panthers even though he allowed five runs over four innings. Lyons struck out five, walked six and gave up five hits.

The top of the second saw Garrett take an early lead, 1-0. After 2 scoreless innings from our offense, our Panthers came out swinging in the bottom of the 3rd, scoring 5. Lyons started off the inning with a single. Carpenter  walked and both runners advanced on a passed ball. Schlotterback then lined a double to left field, scoring both runners. Reed Sanderson added to the hit count by singling to center scoring Schlotterback and advancing Miller who had walked. The remaining 2 runs of the inning were scored by bases loaded walks.

Schlotterback scored Lakewood’s only run in the bottom of the 4th after reaching base by being hit by a pitch. He advanced to 2nd of Miller’s walk and to third and home on wild pitches.

The Lakewood Park Christian Panthers JV piled on seven more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Isaac Schlotterback again kicked things off with a single, plating Lyons. Isaac Chaffee added another hit. Blaine Anderson, Miller, Sanderson, Isaac Chaffee, Chandler Childers, and Elijah Gardner all added runs that inning after reaching base and advancing on a combination of Garrett’s walks, hits batsmen, errors, past balls, and wild pitches.

After pushing across four runs in the top of the sixth, Garrett faced just a 13-9 deficit. A two-run error and a fielder’s choice triggered Garrett’s comeback. Isaac Schlotterback recorded the save, pitching 2 innings in relief of Lyons. The game was called at the end of 6 due to darkness.
