JHBBB vs. Fremont

The Junior Boys basketball teams from Lakewood Park earned a split as they hosted the Fremont Eagles Thursday night, In the 7th grade game Lakewood’s defense led the way in their 26-22 victory. The game started back and forth, both teams were hitting shots, but Lakewood Park forced Fremont into a scoreless second quarter to build a slim 4 point halftime lead. That four point lead was all the Panthers would need, winning by 4. The Panther big guys controlled interior play, winning the rebounding battle and forcing several outside shots. Fremont’s Aiden Dornbush led all scorers in the game with 18 for the Eagles. Scoring for the Panthers was lead by Joel Barkey with 10 and Austin Shepherd with 12.
The 8th grade game turned into a shootout with the both teams scoring double digits nearly every quarter. Fremont ended up winning the high scoring affair 71-55. The Panthers got down early and were never able to catch up despite great energy. Fremont had 7 different players score and the Panther defense just could not keep them contained. Panther highlights included a career-high performance by Caedmon Bontrager who stepped up in a huge way for the shorthanded Panthers with 36 points. Other scorers were Tim Baker with 12, as well as Zech Gardner, Isaiah Bland, Luke Carnahan and Joel Barkey. The Panthers have a few days to recover before hosting Central Noble next Thursday.
