Girls Varsity Soccer Blanks Mississinewa

The Lakewood Park Panther girls soccer team triumphed over Mississinewa High School in an away match on September 19th, with a final score of 1-0. Most of the game was an offensive stalemate with neither team able to generate much action in the opposing team’s half. Lakewood suffered a huge setback just before the end of the first half when junior Julia Vergon had to leave the game with an injury. The half ended 0-0. As the second half wore on, senior Kayla Tatman provided the spark the Panthers needed to win the game. Kayla was able to capitalize on a soft defensive clearance and hit a perfect shot that flew over the Mississinewa goalkeeper’s hands into the back of the net. Sophomore goalkeeper Millie Linnemeier recorded her second shutout of the season on a night filled good saves and smart decisions between the posts. Sophomore Peanut Haraguchi and senior Kaleigh Collins stepped up to cover Julia’s center back position in spectacular fashion. Senior Tori Gallagher, junior Anya Barg, and junior Ellie Hardy were all instrumental in the shutout with their collective defensive play. The Lady Panthers are back in action on Tuesday, September 20th at 5:00pm in an away match against the Fort Wayne Fusion.
