VGS vs. Elkhart Christian

The Lakewood Varsity girls soccer team defeated Elkhart Christian in a home match on September 21st with a final score of 5-3.  Lakewood dominated the first half and the scoring initiated when senior Aubrey Jester blasted a long range shot past the keeper on an assist by senior Paige Trammel.  The Panthers’ second goal was scored on a breakaway by freshmen Sabra Harms with an assist from freshmen Hannah Sibery who played a lovely ball through to her.  This is the third time this season the freshmen pair have combined to score a goal.  The last goal of the first half was another shot scored from distance by senior Ellie Witmer and another assist by Trammel.  The Panthers went into the half leading by a score of 3-1.  ECA came out strong in the second half and were able to tie the game making goals from a set piece and a PK.  The score was tied until, with 3 minutes left in the game, junior Annalisa ‘Peanut’ Haraguchi hit a first-time shot low and hard into the side netting from outside the box.  Her goal was setup by a drop pass from Harms.  The Panthers struck again with one minute left when senior Julia Vergon made a run down the left side of the field and crossed the ball into senior Courtney ‘We’re-going-to-Culvers’ Davenport.  Courtney’s first shot was stopped by the keeper but she jumped on the rebound and put the second shot past her.  Lakewood Park is back in action on Saturday September 23rd at 10:00 AM in a home match against New Haven.
