VGS vs. Lakeland

The Lakewood Park Christian Panther girls soccer team was defeated by Lakeland in a home match on September 5th, with a final score of 3-1.  Lakewood got behind early with goals scored by Lakeland in the 5th and 12th minutes.  The Panthers battled back and converted a chance in the 37th minute that was the end product of a series of excellent passes.  The final pass on the Lakewood goal was made by senior Aubrey Jester to senior Ellie Witmer who struck a powerful shot out of the reach of the Lakeland keeper.  The Panthers had a chance to tie the game just before half on a penalty kick that was awarded when senior Courtney Davenport was taken out in the box on a breakaway.  Aubrey stepped up to take the PK, but it was stopped by the keeper.  The second half was evenly matched until Lakeland scored on a corner kick in the 70th minute for the final goal of the game.  The Lady Panthers travel to Woodlan for their next match on Thursday, September 7th at 5:00pm.
