JHBBB vs. Canterbury

On Thursday, the Junior High Boys basketball team split games as they hosted the Cavaliers from Canterbury School. The seventh grade game started out even, but in the second quarter Canterbury’s Will Russel scored 9 of his game high 13 points to stretch Canterbury to a 21-6 halftime lead. After half time the Panthers intense pressure caused several turnovers, leading to a flurry of Panther scoring but couldn’t finish the comeback. Canterbury ended up winning 38-16. Scoring for Lakewood was Josh Thrush, Austin Shepherd, Allen Archbold, and leading the Panthers was Joel Barkey with 7.

The eighth grade game saw another closely played first quarter ending 6-5, but this time it was the Panthers with the second quarter scoring burst, stretching Lakewood’s halftime lead to 18-10. Both teams made halftime adjustments for their offenses efficiency leading to high scoring in the third and fourth with the Panthers eventually coming out victorious 39-32, due largely to the Panthers’ season high 12 made free throws. Caedmon Bontrager was top scorer for the game with 18 points for the Panthers. Also scoring was Zech Gardner, Aiden Fetters, and Carter Harman.
The Panthers return to action next week at home against Holy Cross and Blackhawk Christian.
